Jack Finarelli, a Falls Church, Va., reader, regarding QT’s reminder that there is never a “the” in front of Magna Carta and hoi polloi and always a “the” in front of the Mahatma Gandhi and the Bronx, while only you can prevent a “the” in the middle of Smokey Bear, writes:
“Should ‘the’ precede QT?  Is it ‘the QT’ or not?”
Or maybe Q the T.
But QT is telling you that on the QT.
Which reminds QT that it isn’t “gild the lily,” but “paint the lily.”
The Q the T never knows what it will be reminded of next.
